Syntho-Glass Pipe Repair Wrap

Syntho-Glass®

Syntho-Glass®
The original, patented fiberglass pre-impregnated composite that is activated by salt or freshwater.

PRODUCT INFORMATION
Syntho-Glass® is the originally, patented fiberglass pre-impregnated composite that is activated by salt or freshwater. Packaged in a hermetically sealed foil pouch, it is ready to use and does not require any measuring or mixing. This system, when used with the appropriate primary sealant, enables you to repair and reinforce virtually any diameter pipe in minutes. Syntho-Glass not only restores a pipe to its original psi rating, but actually can make the repair area stronger than the original pipe, reducing downtime, saving in parts and labor. With an initial setting time of only 30 minutes (75°F/24°C), Syntho-Glass is excellent on copper, steel, SS, PVC, FRP, clay, concrete, rubber, and more. It is safe to use, nontoxic, noncombustible, and odorless. Syntho-Glass is a versatile solution for industries where quick-action repair can be critical.

PREPARATION & APPLICATION

  • Surface Preparation 1

    Depressurize pipe
Roughen pipe surface using a wire brush to remove excess rust, dirt or loose scale. Remove any oils, greases, soaps or foreign materials from pipe surface using a solvent cleaning wipe.

  • 2

Fill defect with putty, such as Syntho-SteelTM or Butyl Strip
Apply an underlying epoxy, such as Syntho-SubSeaTMLV around the entire circumference of the pipe in accordance with package directions. The epoxy will seal the leak and strengthen the damaged pipe.

  • Syntho-Subsea High Compression 3

Water is needed to activate the Syntho-Glass (SG)
Put on supplied gloves, open foil pouch and submerge the roll of SG in water for approximately 10 seconds. A minimum of 8 layers of SG is required and shall be applied in a clockwise direction from right to left (R-T-L) or left to right (L-TR) in a spirally wrapped manner around the pipe using a 50% overlap. At the end of the first wrap (R-T-L), reverse the direction of the wrap and continue to apply the SG (L-T-R) until you’ve achieved the specified number of layers. NOTE: To achieve an 8 layer application, apply 4 passes using a 50% overlap. Occasionally twisting the SG as it is applied helps it conform tightly to the pipe surface at elbows or odd geometries.

  • Syntho-Glass®XT Extreme Tensile Strength Composite 4

Apply 4 layers of compression film over the entire composite repair, wrapping in the same direction as the SG was appliedUsing a perforating tool or wire brush, perforate all layers of compression film to allow the gas generated by the curing process to escape. Remove compression film after approximately 10 minutes.

  • 5

Once the SG has reached its initial cure, 28 minutes @ 75ºF (24ºC), it should be protected with a UV coating, such as Syntho-Glass®UV before returning to service.
