Success Story

Steel Reinforced Concrete repair of sulfuric acid leak with Syntho-Glass

Problem

A 20 year old pre-stressed concrete pipe is leaking large amounts of hydrogen sulfide gas, liquefying to sulfuric acid, causing pipe deterioration.

Conditions

Sewage is percolating through the ruptured municipal force main which is buried 8 feet underground. Sulfuric acid has eaten through 2 feet of the pipe's crown.

Solution

The crew used an 8" by 50' roll of Syntho-Glass® to wrap 8 layers over the 2' repair section, plus an additional 4 to 5 feet on either side of the patch, as a precautionary measure.

Result

The wrapped area of the pipe is now as strong, or stronger, than the original pipe and allowed the city to save thousands of dollars, as compared to traditional repairs with couplings and forced main shutdown.
