Process Water Line - Raw Sewage Corrosion Pipe Repair

The Problem

A 30 psi (2.07 bar), 46" OD raw sewage line is leaking and in need of immediate repair.

Conditions

Through wall leaks and cracks caused by internal and external corrosion.

Solution

In order to promote adhesion, the pipe was cleaned by removing rust, paint, and other foreign matter in accordance with Sa2.5, NACE 2 or near white metal. Syntho-Steel™ Load Transfer Putty fills all pits, dents, and other anomalies, effectively transferring the hoop load to the high tensile strength composite. Syntho-SubSeaTMLV High Compression Kelvar® filled Epoxy ensures a water tight seal over the repair area while providing chemical resistance. Syntho-Glass® XT Extreme Tensile Strength Composite, a bi-directional fiberglass, permanently repairs and reinforces both the internal and external corrosion damage.

Result

The composite repair system eliminated the need to immediately replace the line. The repair was completed inexpensively in a matter of hours. Syntho-Glass XT fully restored the pipe's hoop and axial strength to enable operation at full MAOP.
