The Problem
An in service natural gas distribution valve located in a remote country side setting was damaged during a service repair. The result of the damage was a small fuzz leak that was migrating around the flange and one of the bolts.
Solution
The origin of the leak was verified and a TS2580 Trident-Seal™ repair kit was pulled from the service truck. The valve was cleaned by removing rust, paint, and other foreign matter to promote adhesion, with the pre-packed emery cloth and solvent cleaning wipe, components provided within the TS2580 Trident-Seal kit. The operator qualified applicator applied the kneaded Trident-Seal Putty adjacent to the leak point then mechanically forced the putty into the leak point with the Trident-Seal Pressure Sealing Tape. The simplistic combination of these two materials allowed the gas utility to verify that the leak was sealed in less than 10 minutes from the start of the repair. After leak soap was applied, verifying that the leak has been stopped, the gas utility applied the water activated Trident-Glass™ Outer Wrap to permanently hold the repair system in place and add reinforcement to valve.

Result
The Trident-Seal composite repair system eliminated the need to replace the valve. The repair, which could have taken a substantial amount of time and hundreds of dollars, was completed inexpensively in a matter of 30 minutes.
