The Problem
1275 psi (87.9 bar) carbon steel schedule 40 natural gas transmission line with 50% wall loss at the ground to air interface. Shutting down was not an option.
Conditions
DOT regulated, high consequence natural gas pipeline located in a residential area next to an interstate highway.
Solution
In order to promote adhesion, the pipe was cleaned by removing rust, paint, and other foreign matter in accordance with Sa2.5, NACE 2 or near white metal.
