HDD: HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONAL DRILLING
The Problem
A Natural Gas Corporation in the Pacific Northwest had thirty-six field joints on this 12-inch OD gas line which were in need of corrosion and mechanical protection before being pulled.
Conditions
Crews face numerous challenges, including boring a 400-foot channel for the new 12-inch gas line 25-feet underground.
Solution
After applying Wrapid Bond™, the corrosion protective inner wrap using a two-inch overlap, the crew followed with 8 layers of Syntho-Sleeve® Outer Wrap which provides mechanical protection against abrasion during pull through.
Both the Wrapid Bond and Syntho-Sleeve Outer Wrap were quickly hand applied and the fast cure of the Syntho-Sleeve resin system kept the job rolling.
Result
Boring damage during pull though can create integrity issues with the field joint coating and an inaccessible line such this is an unacceptable scenario. Syntho-Sleeve provided the added protection to ensure a 100% protected pipe and a successful job. The Syntho-Sleeve System survived the pull-back fully intact.
The Syntho-Sleeve System provides both corrosion protection and protects field welded joints on pipelines from the abrasion stresses and scarring of directional drilling and boring.
This unique product has a faster setting time, is easier to apply, has a very low profile, is extremely conformable, and is highly impact resistant. The result is a cost effective; long term protection against corrosion with superior mechanical protection.
